The Adelaide Strikers started the season with a statement victory over the Melbourne Stars at home on Saturday, much to the delight of Head Coach Luke Williams.

Speaking to the media after the match, Williams highlighted his team's all-round performance in what he knew would be a challenging fixture.

"The Melbourne Stars obviously had a good win to start the tournament, so we knew it was going to be a big challenge," Williams said.

Despite the challenge, the Strikers made a strong start with the bat, with internationals Laura Wolvaardt and Maia Bouchier putting on 54 for the opening wicket.

"To have that really solid powerplay and an opening partnership between Maia and Laura sort of set the tone, and then we were able to carry that on for the innings," Williams said.

Williams was also impressed with Sophie Ecclestone and Amanda-Jade Wellington, who claimed two and three wickets respectively.

"They're both so experienced and talented in the T20 format. We're very lucky to have them," he said.

The win provided the perfect platform for the Strikers' season, with the team now heading on the road for their next four matches, including trips to Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart and Perth.

"It's only the start, and we're really looking forward to the road trip, but we're even more excited to return home later in the tournament."

The Adelaide Strikers' next match will be against the Brisbane Heat away from home on Thursday.
