Sophie Ecclestone returns to the Adelaide Strikers for WBBL|12

The Adelaide Strikers are excited to announce the re-signing of England international Sophie Ecclestone for WBBL|12.

One of the most dangerous bowlers in women's cricket, the 27-year-old returns to Adelaide after making her Strikers debut last season.

Renowned for her accuracy and economy, the left-arm orthodox spinner became the ICC's No.1 ranked WT20I bowler at just 20 years of age, and has held the top ranking in both WT20I and WODI cricket for significant periods throughout her career.

Ecclestone played a vital role in England's campaign at the 2022 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, claiming 21 wickets at an economy rate of just 3.83, including career-best figures of 6/36 in the semi-final against South Africa.

The following year, she etched her name into the record books by taking 10 wickets in a Test match against Australia, becoming just the second-youngest woman to achieve the feat.

She continued her strong form with a dominant campaign at the 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, finishing as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets.

More recently, Ecclestone played a key role in helping England reach the final of the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup, finishing with 10 wickets and among the tournament's leading wicket-takers.

In July 2026, Ecclestone became England women's all-time leading wicket-taker across international cricket, surpassing Katherine Sciver-Brunt's previous record during England's one-off Test against India at Lord's.

Ecclestone said she was excited to reunite with her teammates and coach Luke Williams.

"We have an incredibly talented squad, with a great mix of experienced match-winners and exciting young talent," she said.

"I can't wait to get back around the group and continue building on what we achieved last season.

"We're determined to take the next step and put ourselves in a strong position to push for finals."

Strikers coach Luke Williams said Ecclestone's return was a significant boost for the squad.

"Sophie is a world-class player whose skill, experience and ability to perform under pressure make her a valuable addition to our group," Williams said.

"She made a strong impact both on and off the field during her time with the Strikers last season, and we're delighted to welcome her back for WBBL|12.

"Having a player of Sophie's calibre strengthens our bowling attack and adds invaluable leadership to the squad."

An exciting summer of Big Bash cricket is just around the corner, with early bird tickets now available through Ticketek.

With demand expected to be high, fans can guarantee their place at Adelaide Oval by purchasing an Adelaide Strikers membership through the Adelaide Strikers website.
