Fresh off helping Australia lift the T20 World Cup trophy at Lord’s, Adelaide Strikers Captain Tahlia McGrath has already turned her attention to leading the Strikers back into WBBL title contention.
“I'm so excited for the WBBL this year.” McGrath said.
“It's our favourite time of the year… representing our state, and we've got a bit of unfinished business with the Strikers this year.”
McGrath said her side is ready to bounce back after a tough season in WBBL|11 and is embracing the underdog tag placed on the Strikers.
“I think people have already written us off, and the season hasn’t even started. And I kind of like that… we're going to prove people wrong, and we're going to have a really good season. So I can't wait to kick off.“
With four fixtures set to be played at home, including a key match up against the Melbourne Renegades at Adelaide Oval, McGrath is looking forward to playing in front of the Adelaide faithful once again.
“Adelaide fans do it better than anyone. We always hear your support: very passionate, very loud, always decked in their blue, cheering the Strikers on.”
“You really feel the love when you're out there in the middle. We love playing at Adelaide Oval. I think we've got a pretty good record out here as well, so hopefully another good one this year.”
Tickets are now on sale for all the Adelaide Strikers WBBL matches and McGrath is keen to see as many fans as possible get along to a match.
“I think the biggest thing is people that come to a game for the first time, realise how much they love it and how talented we are and often come back.” She said,
“If you've never been to a game before, come out and have a look. Plenty of fanfare, lots of photos and autographs after the game and we'd love to have as many out here as possible”.
McGrath heads into the WBBL season after helping Australia claim another T20 World Cup title at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
“It was unbelievable. So cool to be a part of, and to come home with a bit of silverware was extra special after the last couple, being knocked out in the semi-finals,” she said.
“When we saw the fixture and saw the final was gonna be at Lord’s, it made it that extra special. The photos on the balcony, beers going everywhere… a lot of us had friends and family over there packed in the change room. It’s something that I’ll never forget.”
Despite spending much of the tournament in a supporting role, McGrath embraced her role within the Australian squad.
“I get to be a part of the best team in the world, no matter what that role looks like,” she said.
“This tournament, I spent carrying drinks, but I thought I was a pretty good drinks runner! I took that role pretty seriously.”
“I’d love to be back in the 11 soon, but as much as I’m part of that team, I just love every minute of it.”
