The Strikers lit up Adelaide Oval with a thrilling 6-run victory over the Sydney Thunder in a pulsating contest.
The win was built from a fiery bowling performance from Jamie Overton and the heroics of Luke Wood, who both proved decisive when it mattered most.
The Strikers’ innings exploded into life from the first ball, with Chris Lynn launching a monstrous 96-metre six to set the tone early.
Mackenzie Harvey and Jason Sangha ensured the momentum continued, combining for a 68-run partnership, contributing 38 and 31 respectively to keep the scoreboard ticking.
The ever-reliable Liam Scott led the innings superbly, finishing unbeaten on 49*, and saw the Strikers to a total of 8/165 from their 20 overs.
After the opening Thunder partnership threatened, Overton found a decisive breakthrough as an edge flew through to Harvey behind the stumps.
Lloyd Pope and Hassan Ali applied the squeeze in the middle overs, picking up a wicket each, while Jerrssis Wadia delivered a sensational run-out to halt the Thunder’s progress.
Wood was handed the ball with the Thunder requiring 13 runs off the final over. He held his nerve under pressure, conceding just six runs to seal a dramatic win and secure the Strikers’ third victory of the season.
Overton was the standout bowler on the night, finishing with impressive figures of 3/25.
The Strikers now turn their attention to Hobart, where they will face the Hurricanes at Ninja Stadium on Friday, January 9.
