Strikers name squad for Perth clash as Shamsi joins BBL|15 campaign

The Adelaide Strikers have confirmed a 13-man squad for their January 4 showdown with the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium, featuring a major new addition.

South African wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has signed with the Strikers for the remainder of BBL|15 and will travel to Perth with the squad.

He joins as an overseas replacement player, with Luke Wood and Jamie Overton unavailable for finals after being named in England’s T20 World Cup squad.

The 35-year-old left-armer brings a wealth of experience from 70 T20Is and 55 ODIs, including career-best figures of 5/24, and is South Africa’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is.

Head Coach Tim Paine said Shamsi was a welcome addition to the squad.

“Tabraiz is a highly respected cricketer who knows what it takes to perform in big moments, and we’re delighted to have him joining the Strikers for the remainder of the season.

"He gives our side plenty of different options for the remaining matches of the tournament, and we're excited to see what he brings."

Harry Nielsen and Hassan Ali drop out of the squad.

Squad of 13: Mackenzie Harvey, Chris Lynn, Harry Manenti, Jamie Overton, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott, Tabraiz Shamsi, Matt Short, Henry Thornton, Jerrssis Wadia, Luke Wood.
