Strikers win final-over thriller against Sixers to open BBL|15 campaign

The Adelaide Strikers opened their BBL|15 campaign with a dramatic three-wicket victory over the Sydney Sixers at the SCG.

Luke Wood, having picked up 3-26 with the ball, chipped the winning runs over the off-side ring with four ball remaining.

The left-arm quick dismissed the dangerous Babar Azam early to get his side off to a great start before Henry Thornton got his opening partner Daniel Hughes.

The Sixers strung together a few dangerous partnerships but the Strikers managed to continually chip away to stay ahead of the game.

Lloyd Pope picked up two in two balls, including Josh Philippe, who top scored for the Sixers, while Jamie Overton used his pace to take 2-22.

The Sixers stuttered their way to 9/159, leaving the Strikers on top at the half-way stage.

The opening pair of Chris Lynn and Matt Short both fell inside the powerplay but a brilliant knock from Liam Scott marshalled the middle-overs for the Strikers.

The 25-year-old made his second BBL fifty as he took down the Sixers' pace attack with a flurry of fours and sixes. Scott eventually fell for 51 off 32.

Overseas star Jamie Overton smashed a quickfire 30 to carry the team close to the target but fell with six runs still required, but his fellow internationals, Wood and Hassan Ali, got the Strikers over the line.

Tim Paine's side host the Brisbane Heat in their next game of the competition on December 23 at Adelaide Oval.
