Rashid claims back-to-back MVP awards

Gifted leg-spinner Rashid Khan has become the first player to win the Adelaide Strikers’ BBL Most Valuable Player award in back-to-back seasons.

The 20-year-old Afghan edged out batsman Jon Wells in the player-voted award after another impressive Big Bash summer in blue.

Rashid played every match for Adelaide in BBL|08 and claimed 19 wickets - a record haul for a Striker in a single BBL series - to rank equal-fifth on the tournament wicket-takers list.

He consistently challenged the competition’s best batsmen even when not taking wickets. Rashid’s bowling economy of 6.14 was the second-best of any player to bowl more than three overs in BBL|08.

The youngster also contributed with the willow, smashing 93 runs from just 56 balls faced for a strike rate of 166.07 - the best of any player to bat in more than three innings.

He was deservingly named in the BBL’s Team of the Tournament for the second consecutive season.
