Spinner named in Team of the Tournament

15 February 2019

Rashid Khan had another strong season for the Strikers

Strikers leg-spinner Rashid Khan has been named in cricket.com.au’s Team of the Tournament for the second consecutive season.

The 20-year-old played every match for Adelaide in BBL|08 and claimed 19 wickets – the most by a Striker in a single BBL series – to rank equal-fifth on the wicket-takers leaderboard for the tournament.

Rashid’s economy of 6.14 was also the second-best of any player to bowl more than three overs.

He also contributed with the bat, blasting 93 runs from just 56 balls faced for a strike rate of 166.07 – the highest of anyone with more than three innings.

His feats were all the more impressive given the passing of his father during the early stages of the tournament. Rashid courageously decided to play on, capturing the hearts of fans across the globe with his bravery on and off the pitch.

Rashid was the only Striker named in the BBL|08 Team of the Tournament.

Top-of-the-table Hobart had the most representatives included with three players named ahead of fellow finalists the Melbourne Stars and the Sydney Sixers with two players each.

Adelaide, the Sydney Thunder, the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Renegades all had one player while the Brisbane Heat were the only team without a representative.
