D’Arcy Short said the opportunity to play more on Adelaide Oval and his relationship with Adelaide Strikers Head Coach Jason Gillespie were two key factors behind his decision to move to the Strikers ahead of BBL|13.
A two-time BBL Player of the Tournament, the Strikers announced on Tuesday that Short had signed a two-year deal.
Short is looking forward to a fresh start after six seasons at the Hobart Hurricanes.
“I've always had fun coming to Adelaide, it's been a place where I've always loved batting,” Short said.
“It's a place where batters always seem to do pretty well and you have the boys around you to help you and take a bit of pressure off as well.
“I just saw [the move] as an opportunity to have a fresh start and hopefully I can contribute and get some wins on the board.”
Short isn’t a stranger to Adelaide, having previously played cricket for Woodville for several years as a teenager, while also already having a relationship with coach Gillespie.
“He (Gillespie) was excited to try to get me there and I've always got along well with ‘Dizzy’, so I think it's going to be a good move and a good opportunity,” Short said.
“We’ve talked about the opportunity of batting in the top six and bowling a bit as well.
“It gives you a bit of excitement really, to go and play with some new mates and prove yourself somewhere else, where you don’t have anything behind you and you can just do what you need to do – hopefully performing well and winning some games.”
This announcement follows a fellow Short – Matt – re-signing with the Strikers on a three-year deal in recent months.
