Head strengthens Sussex connection

Strikers skipper Head will feature across all formats for Sussex when not required for Australian duties, having previously played county cricket for Yorkshire and Worcestershire.

Alex Carey, Rashid Khan and new Strikers signing Phil Salt are all part of Sussex’s current squad, which is guided by coach Jason Gillespie.

BBL|07 Championship coach Gillespie knew Head was the perfect fit given their success with Adelaide.

“We wanted a top four batsman to improve our team and Travis will do that. He’s shown his class in his international career so far, he brings some useful off-spin and he will offer good leadership support to our captains from his time leading South Australia and the Strikers,” Gillespie said on Sussex’s website.

“I’ve known Trav for a number of years. We have a really good relationship and after we decided here at Sussex that an overseas batsman would complement our squad next year I just knew that Travis would be ideal.”

Head was initially scheduled to join Sussex earlier this year before he was selected in Australia’s Ashes squad.

The 25-year-old left-hander has played 12 Tests, 42 ODIs and 16 T20Is for Australia and is the only player to score more than 1,000 BBL runs for the Strikers.
