Captain Travis Head, experienced seamer Peter Siddle and allrounder Michael Neser have all been named in a 15-player squad in what will be Justin Langer’s maiden Test campaign as coach of the Australian cricket team.
Head, 24, is yet to make his Test debut but has been rewarded for a strong Australia A tour where he also captained the one-day side.
The left-hander posted a team-high second innings total of 87 against India A in Bengaluru and steered his side to victory against South Africa A late last month with a match-defining 110 from 117 balls.
Siddle is in the frame for his first Test appearance in almost two years.
The 33-year-old has claimed 211 wickets in 62 Tests for Australia and has shown strong recent form in the UK in all formats, backing up an outstanding BBL|07 with the Strikers.
Neser continues to improve his game with bat and ball and is chasing a long-awaited Test debut.
The right-hander, who earned an ODI debut in June in England, was a reliable contributor in the recent Australia A tour of India and adds versatility to the Australian squad.
The opening Test against Pakistan begins on 7 October at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
