Taylor ruled out of WBBL|05

21 November 2019

West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor will not return to the Adelaide Strikers in rebel WBBL|05 due to a knee injury that has ruled her out of the competition.

Taylor played the first two matches of the season for the Strikers, however departed for international duty with the intention to return for the last two matches and finals if required.

According to Cricket West Indies however, Taylor sustained a grade one medial collateral ligament sprain to her knee in the third ODI against India.

Englishwoman Lauren Winfield will now remain with the Strikers for two more matches than originally planned, however she is not available for finals due to playing commitments with England.

Winfield has been an important middle-order addition for the Strikers so far in WBBL|05, with an average of 20.25 from six innings.

Head Coach Luke Williams is disappointed that Taylor will not be back in Strikers blue this season, but is confident the side can continue their success.

“We are of course disappointed that Stafanie is unable to return, but unfortunately these things happen in sport.

“We’re really grateful however, that Lauren has been able to stay on longer as she’s just been fantastic around the group and brings a lot, on and off the field.

“We need to just now concentrate on our final few games and cementing our place in the top four.”

The Strikers have four minor round matches remaining and currently sit in second place on the ladder, behind only the Brisbane Heat who have played one more game.
