Strikers trio included in national squads

Alex Carey will head to England for the ICC World Cup, beginning on 1 June.

Three Adelaide Strikers – Alex Carey, Michael Neser and Travis Head – have been named in national men’s squads to tour England this winter.

Carey has been selected in Australia’s ICC World Cup squad while Head and Neser will represent Australia A in games at the same time as the World Cup and in the lead-up to the Ashes Tests.

Head and Carey have also been named on the national 2019-20 contract list, announced today by Cricket Australia.

Australia opens its World Cup title defence against Afghanistan at the Bristol County Ground on 1 June.

Steve Smith and David Warner return to the squad after suspension and bowlers Mitchell Starc and Jhye Richardson have both been named subject to fitness.

The World Cup squad will assemble in Brisbane for a training camp at the National Cricket Centre on 2 May.

The training camp will include three practice matches between Australia XI and New Zealand XI at Allan Border Field.

Head will captain the Australia A men’s ODI squad in five games against county teams, starting its tour against Northamptonshire on 20 June at The County Ground, Northamptonshire.

He will also be part of a strong Australia A squad – captained by Test skipper Tim Paine – to play three four-day tour matches in the build-up to the Ashes Tour of England starting in August.
