Strikers set for Sri Lankan tour

26 February 2016

A development squad of Australia’s best emerging female players has today been named to play in a limited-overs tri-series against England and Sri Lanka, starting in Sri Lanka next month.

Adelaide Strikers Tahlia McGrath, Bridget Patterson, Alex Price and Amanda Wellington have all been rewarded with selection in the squad on the back of strong performances fin the inaugural edition of the Rebel Women's Big Bash League.

For spinner Price and all-rounder McGrath, this will be their first overseas tour with the Shooting Stars, with Wellington and Patterson having traveled with the team across the last few seasons.

All four players were members of the victorious South Australia side that won the Women’s National Cricket League title in November, 2015.

Commenting on the 13-player squad, WNSP Chairman Shawn Flegler said:

“We’ve identified these players as having the potential to play for Australia in the future and we’re looking forward to seeing how they go in the challenging conditions on the Sub-Continent.

“These players have all impressed at different stages this summer and it will be a good test to see how they contend with England and Sri Lanka’s development squads.

“This Sri Lanka tri-series is great opportunity for players to push their case for international selection and will also give a number of players experience in leadership positions,” Flegler said.

The coaching panel is packed with international experience and includes former Australian pace bowler and national coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick as Head Coach, with former Southern Stars international Leah Poulton and former Sri Lankan international Dulip Samaraweera as assistant coaches.
