Stanlake sizzles for Australia

03 July 2018

Strikers paceman Billy Stanlake has produced a stunning spell to lead Australia to a convincing nine-wicket victory in its T20I tri-series opener against Pakistan.

The 204cm quick was at his aggressive best in Harare, finishing with career-best figures of 4/8 from his four overs.

It marked the second-best bowling figures produced by any Australian bowler in T20I cricket behind only James Faulkner’s 5/27 in early 2016, which also came against Pakistan.

His economy rate of 2.00, which included 18 dot balls, was also the lowest recorded by any Australian in the format.

Pakistan was dismissed for 116 leaving Australia to cruise to the total with nine overs to spare.

Strikers skipper Travis Head finished unbeaten on 20. Alex Carey, in his first official match as Australia’s new T20I vice-captain, was typically sharp behind the stumps and claimed one catch.

Australia confronts Zimbabwe at the same venue on Tuesday. The whirlwind series will be completed in six days with the final scheduled for Sunday.
