Cricket Australia has confirmed BBL|07 championship player and Australian Test squad member Peter Siddle will be available to represent the Adelaide Strikers in Wednesday’s BBL|08 season-opener against the Brisbane Heat.

CA has released the three current non-playing members of the Test squad in Siddle, Mitchell Marsh and Chris Tremain from Test duties to return to their BBL clubs for the competition’s opening week.

The Australian XI currently competing against India in Perth, including Strikers skipper Travis Head, won't be available for their BBL clubs before 22 December when the third Test squad assembles in Melbourne.

Those selected in the third Test squad then won’t be available for Big Bash action between 22-24 December where a decision on player availability after Christmas will then be made.

Siddle impressed in his first season as a Striker in BBL|07, boasting a bowling economy of 5.94 for the tournament – the best of any seamer to bowl more than four overs.

The veteran claimed figures of 3/17 in last summer’s BBL Final to help the Strikers to their inaugural Big Bash title.

Wednesday’s BBL|08 opener against the Heat at the Gabba begins at 6:15pm local time (6:45pm ACDT) and will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and Fox Cricket.
