Strikers v Heat
Friday, 17 January
Adelaide Oval – 3:10pm local
Televised live on Fox Cricket and Kayo
Radio broadcast via Macquarie and Crocmedia
Head to head
Adelaide Strikers: 5
Brisbane Heat: 5
The Strikers will be keen to atone for Tuesday’s defeat in what was the club’s most disappointing performance of the season. Brisbane cruised to victory by seven wickets in a one-sided matchup.
How will the side respond after a heavy loss at the Gabba? Coach Jason Gillespie has kept his faith in the same 13-player squad for Friday’s return clash and will be expecting an improved performance on home soil. It’s a crucial match for both clubs as teams jostle for finals spots at the pointy end of the season.
Heat import AB de Villiers hasn’t played at Adelaide Oval since November of 2012 during South Africa’s Test tour of Australia. He was trapped LBW for just 1 and bowled for 33 in his two innings. The man to dismiss him on both occasions? None other than Peter Siddle.
Striker to watch – Rashid Khan
The two-time Strikers MVP continues to impress, not only with the ball but also with the bat as was on display at the Gabba. Rashid looks set to smash his own Strikers club record of 19 wickets in a BBL season with 15 to his name already from nine matches. Adelaide will need another match-winning performance from the leg-spinner to topple the Heat on Friday.
Danger player – AB de Villiers
De Villiers lived up to the hype with a composed 40 in his Big Bash debut at the Gabba on Tuesday. Adelaide’s below-par total eased the pressure on the debuting de Villiers, but the Strikers will hope to turn the screws on the South African star on home turf on Friday.
