Australia ODI allrounder Marcus Stoinis did the damage with bat and ball for the Stars.
He first struck his third half-century from four Big Bash innings in a 114-run opening partnership with former Striker Ben Dunk (72 off 53 balls) as the Stars set a strong total of 2/167 on a slow Ted Summerton Reserve pitch.
Stoinis then claimed figures of 3/20 from four overs to hold the defending champions at bay.
Hard-hitting batsman Jake Lehmann produced his biggest Big Bash score in challenging conditions to lead the Strikers’ chase.
Included at No.3 in the Strikers’ batting order, Lehmann top-scored for Adelaide with 40 off 32 and combined with Alex Carey (30 off 23) to have the Strikers on track early at 3/97 in the 14th over.
But there was little resistance once both men were dismissed. The Strikers lost 6/26 thereafter and were eventually bowled out for 123 in the final over.
Stars trio Stoinis, Liam Plunkett, and Dwayne Bravo all snared three wickets apiece.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan was the only Strikers bowler to claim a wicket.
The result leaves the Strikers in sixth spot on the BBL|08 ladder with a 4-6 record and four matches remaining in the minor round.
