Andre Fletcher found form in brutal fashion with the bat before Adam Zampa and the Melbourne Stars' spin bowlers completed a MCG homecoming on Friday night.
West Indian entertainer Fletcher belted an unbeaten 89 off 49 balls to lift the Stars to an imposing 2/179. He smacked eight fours and four sixes in the process, turning the game the Stars' way after a slow start with the bat.
Stars captain Glenn Maxwell avoided the ignominy of a third consecutive golden duck, scoring 37 off 28, and chipped in with 2/12 from four overs as the Strikers were skittled for just 68 in reply.
Zampa claimed 5/17 in a destructive 20-ball contribution and Zahir Khan (2/19) was also influential.
Fletcher provided most of the highlights and combined with Hilton Cartwright in a 77-run stand from 35 balls, hitting 32 of the Stars' 33 runs in the power surge.
The innings came to a close when Fletcher belted a Danny Briggs full toss over the rope and into the sight screen at long-on.
Maxwell opened the Stars' bowling and combined with Khan to remove Strikers openers Alex Carey (1) and Phil Salt (5) in the first power play to give the home side the upper hand.
Wickets fell at regular intervals as the Strikers fell well short of the Bash Boost point.
Matt Renshaw top-scored for the Strikers with 20 off 23 balls.
The Strikers next face the Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.
