The Strikers showed dominance with the bat against the Melbourne Renegades on Sunday morning, winning the flip and electing to send the visiting side in.
Led by opener Dane Van Niekerk (62), the Strikers piled on the sixth highest total for Weber WBBL|07 to date.
Contributions from Van Niekerk’s South African teammate Laura Wolvaardt (47) and fellow opener Katie Mack (19) added to the scoreboard, with the Renegades requiring 161 runs for victory.
Megan Schutt picked up where she left off in the WBBL last season, marking her return in blue with a maiden opening over and the wickets of Rodrigues and Dooley to her name.
Tahlia McGrath removed Eve Jones early in her innings, however the fall of this wicket brought Harmanpreet Kaur to the crease. The Indian T20I captain would prove to be the Strikers undoing, finishing 73 not out and guiding her side to success in the final over of the match.
The Strikers will have the opportunity for redemption in front of a home crowd on Saturday afternoon, when they mark their return to Adelaide for the first time in almost two years.
