Head to head
Last time they met
Staf Taylor was the difference for the Strikers when these two sides met at North Sydney Oval a week and a half ago. At 4/25, the Strikers were in strife, before the West Indian captain strode to the middle, producing 60 from 48 balls, and helping the Strikers to build a respectable 127-run total. Returning the favour, the Strikers knocked over the Renegades top order, clinching 3/12 including opening pair Lizelle Lee and Sophie Molineux. Georgia Wareham did her best to stage a middle-order recovery effort, but it was the Strikers who were victorious by 6 runs.
It has been a less than ideal run with injury this season for either of these teams, with the Strikers losing Suzie Bates to a shoulder injury and the Renegades without Georgia Wareham and Maitlan Brown for the remainder of the tournament. While both sides have battled with consistency, the Strikers have started to link wins together at the right end of the season and continue to keep their finals hopes alive, however if the head-to-head comparison is anything to go by, it could be a close one.
Strikers to watch – Sarah Coyte
The current #1 wicket-taker in the competition, Sarah Coyte is on track for her best WBBL season to date. Her economy rate falls just behind competition leader Darcie Brown and the ever-dangerous Megan Schutt, while her lethal fielding work is a cut above. Picking up 3/10 in the Strikers last match against the Hurricanes, the 29-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down as the Strikers make their charge for the finals.
Danger player – Sophie Molineux
A little like the Renegades this season, Sophie Molineux has had an up and down WBBL06. However you can never count the allrounder out, and when given the opportunity with bat or ball, Molineux can make you pay. The 22-year-old is currently the Renegades leading wicket-taker, and not far behind with bat in hand. The last time these teams met, Molineux gave away her wicket cheaply – a mistake she will undoubtably not make twice.
