Head to head
The last time they met
Just one week ago, the Strikers claimed victory over the side who stood between them and their maiden WBBL title last season. Katie Mack took her role as opener seriously, notching up the second half century of her WBBL career, alongside Laura Wolvaardt (46) who produced another suburb effort in blue. Darcie Brown dismissed the newly appointed Heat captain Jess Jonassen, before Tahlia McGrath and Madeline Penna combined for the catch of the tournament (if not, the catch of WBBL history – you be the judge).
On the back of clinching two WBBL titles, the Heat have struggled to find their feet this season. Consistency is key in a short season, and is something that the Strikers have battled with this year also. The two sides who faced off for the WBBL05 trophy currently sit 5th and 6th on the ladder and need to start ticking off wins if they want to press again this year.
Young gun, Darcie Brown is yet to be hit for six in her WBBL career. Not one of the 126 legal balls bowled by Brown this season have made it over the rope – giving her the best strike rate of any bowler in the competition right now.
Striker to watch – Amanda-Jade Wellington
Amanda-Jade Wellington has long been one of the Striker’s most reliable wicket-takers, capable of pulling a trick out of the bag when required. The leg-spinner claimed the invaluable wicket of Laura Kimmince the last time these two sides met and has been showing her ferocity with the bat in the middle-order in games of late.
Danger player – Georgia Redmayne
The Heat’s current number one runscorer, Georgia Redmayne has had an imposing season with bat in hand. A knock of 59 not out against the Sydney Thunder was the difference in Brisbane's second win of the tournament. When the Strikers last met the Heat, 26-year-old Redmayne was a force to be reckoned with, notching up 65 in a 79-run opening partnership with Maddy Green.
