Local trio sign on

02 October 2019

Alex Price, Annie O'Neil and Tegan McPharlin will represent the Strikers in WBBL|05

Local players Alex Price, Tegan McPharlin and Annie O’Neil have all penned fresh one-year deals with the Adelaide Strikers for rebel WBBL|05.

Price and McPharlin have been with the Strikers since the competition's inception, however O’Neil returns after a year off-contract.

O'Neil has spent the last 12 months proving herself as a dynamic batter in State and Premier Cricket, earning herself another chance at WBBL.

The right-hander was included in an internal trial match ahead of WBBL|04, compiling a score in the 80s and demonstrating her skill against world-class players.

“We’re really pleased to have Annie back in the squad after being a part of the Strikers a couple of years ago,” Head Coach Luke Williams said.

“She’s a hard-hitting, aggressive middle-order player and really good fielder so we’re certainly looking forward to adding Annie to our batting group for the season ahead.”

Price, O'Neil & McPharlin highlights

Wicketkeeper and former captain McPharlin has played 46 games in blue, taking 36 dismissals behind the stumps.

The hardworking middle-order batter had a standout season in WBBL|04, with a strike-rate of 112.23 and a high-score of 41 not out.

“Tegan had one of the best seasons last year in WBBL and was solid as always behind the stumps, taking every opportunity,” said Williams, who is in his first season as Head Coach.

“She played some really important innings through the middle and later order so it’s fantastic to have her back again. Being a former captain of the team, it will be great to have her leadership back in the group.”

Off-spinner Price is a character among the group and has shown her value both on and off the field. Handy with the bat, Price is also able to make quick, important contributions in the lower order.

“Alex certainly contributes a lot with her bubbly personality – through the stress of the Big Bash period, it’s great to have her in the group,” Williams said.

“She’s an experienced player at this level and her contributions bowling through the middle overs will be important for us once again.”

The Strikers begin their campaign at Karen Rolton Oval on 19 and 20 October. The side has one remaining contract spot to fill.
