Gillespie, who returned to South Australia this week after coaching English county side Sussex, will guide the Strikers until at least the end of BBL|09.
People’s Choice, the original Major Partner with the Adelaide Strikers for their first three years in the Big Bash League, will be the Major Partner for the BBL side for the next three years and co-Major Partner for the WBBL team in 2018-19.
Gillespie has led Adelaide to two BBL finals series in his three seasons at the helm, including last summer’s historic title triumph. He has steered the Strikers to 19 victories from his 29 matches in charge.
Gillespie said he was thrilled to extend his stay with the Strikers.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute as coach of the Adelaide Strikers,” the former Australian Test paceman said.
“We’ve got a great group of players, coaches and support staff and we all want to continue building on the success of last season.”
People Choice’s distinctive lime green and red logo will feature on team apparel for the Strikers’ men’s and women’s teams and be seen around the grounds and at community activities.
Adelaide Strikers General Manager Bronwyn Klei said: “It’s great to have both Jason and People’s Choice back with the Strikers.
“Jason’s effort to mould the men’s squad and help lead the team to last year’s BBL title was outstanding and we know he wants sustained success.
“People’s Choice were the Adelaide Strikers’ first major partner in the early days of the Big Bash League, so we are pleased to again join forces with them as we enter the next era of the expanded competition.
“It’s always great to work with a like-minded partner who is also focused on innovation, customer service and connection with community.”
People’s Choice Chief Executive Officer Steve Laidlaw said the match with the Adelaide Strikers was an easy and respected win for both teams.
“This is an important and exciting partnership for People’s Choice,” he said. “It gives us opportunities to be seen nationally throughout the season and to connect with the growing Striker community. Like us, the Strikers are a growing brand in a very competitive environment and we want to see this partnership grow over the next three years.”
People’s Choice is one of Australia’s largest and most successful credit unions, with 365,000 members across Australia and branches in South Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria, Western Australia and Australian Capital Territory.
BBL tickets go on public sale from tomorrow (Thursday), 4 October.
The Adelaide Strikers open rebel WBBL|04 against Brisbane Heat in Melbourne on 2 December and then the KFC BBL|08 season starts for the Strikers on 19 December, also against Brisbane Heat, in Brisbane.
