Head named Strikers skipper

28 November 2017

New Adelaide Strikers captain Travis Head

Powerhouse batsman Travis Head has been named captain of the Adelaide Strikers ahead of the side’s KFC BBL|07 campaign.

The 23-year-old is the youngest captain in Strikers history and assumes the role from the departing Brad Hodge.

Head, who is also skipper of the West End Redbacks, said he was honoured to lead the side this summer.

“It’s a privilege to be named captain. We’ve got such an exciting squad this season and a good mix of youth and experience,” Head said.

“We’ve got amazing fans, an incredible home ground at Adelaide Oval and I know the guys are really hungry to have success.

“There’s good continuity in the team with a few players who have stuck with us for several years plus a few big recruits like Colin Ingram, Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle.

“We can’t wait to get started.”

Head has played 26 matches for the Adelaide Strikers since making his Big Bash debut in January, 2013.

He has hit 614 runs – ranked third all-time at Adelaide – and is the only Striker to score a BBL century.

Head also has nine Big Bash wickets including best figures of 3/16 against the Melbourne Renegades in BBL|05.

The Adelaide Strikers begin their BBL|07 campaign against the Sydney Thunder on Friday, 22 December from 7.10pm at Adelaide Oval.
