Devine crowned WBBL MVP

New Zealand power-hitter Sophie Devine has taken out the Strikers’ WBBL Most Valuable Player title for her stellar rebel WBBL|03 season.

Devine enjoyed her best Adelaide Strikers season to date alongside fellow Kiwi and captain Suzie Bates, finishing the season as the Strikers’ equal-leading wicket-taker in WBBL|03 with 17 scalps.

Her best figures of 2-10 came in a win against the Melbourne Stars and she was named player of the match on two occasions throughout the tournament.

Devine also showed her trademark power with the willow by blasting 17 sixes, ranked equal-second in WBBL|03, and was second only to skipper Bates for runs by a Striker (355) this summer.

Her all-round prowess came to the fore in the Strikers’ incredible super over victory against the Thunder in Wagga Wagga, where she held her nerve with both bat and ball, finishing unbeaten on six, and with clutch figures of 1-4.

She also crushed 70 runs from just 45 balls in a brave effort against eventual champions the Sydney Sixers in Sydney.

Devine remains one of the most popular and important leaders of Adelaide’s emerging WBBL squad and was also named in’s team of the tournament.
