In-form wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey is set to make his County Championship debut in the UK this weekend after being cleared to extend his stay with the Sussex County Cricket Club.

The 27-year-old signed with the Sharks for the remainder of the UK’s Vitality Blast Twenty20 competition, alongside Adelaide Strikers teammate Rashid Khan, but has now received a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) from Cricket Australia to compete at first-class level for the club.

Playing under BBL|07 Championship coach Jason Gillespie, Carey is expected to slot into the XI for Sussex’s clash with Middlesex beginning this Sunday.

He’s enjoyed a strong run of form abroad after being named in the ICC Cricket World Cup Team of the Tournament, including a Player of the Match performance in his Vitality Blast debut last month with a match-winning 78 from 46 deliveries against Somerset.
