Beaumont, who was voted ‘Player of Tournament’ in July after scoring the most runs in the World Cup, joins New Zealand pair Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine as the overseas recruits in the squad for Rebel WBBL|03.
Having arrived in Australia on Monday with the England squad ahead of the Women’s Ashes series, Beaumont is excited to spend the next few months in Australia.
“Adelaide was always my first choice to come back, I really enjoyed last year so I am very excited to be back in blue and hopefully have more success as a team this year,” said Beaumont, who topped the Strikers’ run scorers in WBBL|02 with 276, including three fifties.
“We unfortunately couldn’t put many complete performances together last season and I was disappointed personally with how I started (the tournament). Not having played in Australia before, it took a bit of time to adapt to the conditions.
“At the start of WBBL|03 I will be just coming off the back of the T20 matches in the Ashes series, so that will be great for my game.”
The England opening batter was the leading runscorer at the World Cup, with 410 runs from nine innings and a highest score of 148.
Head Coach Andrea McCauley praised Beaumont’s World Cup performance and is looking forward to welcoming her back to the Strikers’ batting lineup.
“On the back of her consistent performances last year, we really felt that Tammy would be a good inclusion again for the squad,” McCauley said.
“I think she learned a lot from last season playing in Australia and will be involved in the Ashes series just before WBBL this year, which will hold her in good stead. Hopefully she performs well and gets plenty of experience on Aussie soil under her belt.”
The Strikers open WBBL|03 with games against Hobart Hurricanes at Glenelg’s Gliderol Stadium on 9 and 10 December.
Current Strikers WBBL|03 squad: Tammy Beaumont, Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Megan Schutt, Amanda Wellington, Samantha Betts, Tahlia McGrath, Katelyn Pope, Alex Price, Tabatha Saville, Tegan McPharlin, Bridget Patterson.
