Strikers to head to the Barossa Valley

Billy Stanlake bowls to an Emerging Redback

The Adelaide Strikers’ BBL squad will play a trial game at Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley on Sunday, 16 December.

The KFC BBL|07 champions will complete their preparations for the coming season with the 20-over game at Nuriootpa’s Centennial Oval, set to feature Strikers including Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald, Billy Stanlake, Ben Laughlin and South African import Colin Ingram. Some Emerging Redbacks will help fill the teams.

Entry will be free. Play will start at 2pm and be followed by an autograph session at the oval from about 5pm. There will also be activities for children on Hoffman Oval during the game.

Coach Jason Gillespie said he was keen to repeat the success of last year’s trial match in the Adelaide Hills.

“Our game at Strathalbyn last December was a great warm-up for the squad but it was also a really good event for the community,” he said.

“We’ve been told Nuriootpa also has impressive facilities so it will be perfect for a final hit-out before we start another season.”

The Nuriootpa match will be only three days before the Strikers play their first game of the KFC BBL season against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba, on Wednesday 19 December.
