Suzie Bates and Charlotte Edwards have featured in a successful Women’s County Championship campaign for Hampshire in the UK.

Strikers captain Bates led from the front, finishing the tournament as the leading run-scorer with 358, including her best knock of 148.

Her outstanding average of 89.50 across six matches of the 50-over tournament was only surpassed by fellow Striker Tammy Beaumont (Kent), who recorded 130.50 in her four innings.

New Zealand allrounder Bates also took 10 wickets, reaping best bowling figures of 3/24.

Edwards, former Striker and current assistant coach of the WBBL team, returned to her playing roots for the competition, contributing with 150 runs at an average of 50.

Named the Director of Women’s Cricket at Hampshire in April, Edwards subsequently helped guide the franchise to their first Championship win.

The team won six of their seven matches throughout the tournament – an impressive feat following their promotion from Division Two this season.
