Phillip Hughes tragically lost his life on Thursday 27 November 2014, three days shy of his 26th birthday.
The loveable little guy from Mackville NSW, had an outstanding record in T20 matches. Hughes made 1110 runs from 34 domestic T20 matches, averaging 42.7. He made 10 scores of 50 or more including a highest score of 87 not out.
Hughes played eight matches for the Strikers, including seven last season. He was set to open the batting for the Strikers with Craig Simmons during BBL|04, with coach Darren Berry saying in July: "Probably at times last year, we batted him out of position (at three), but I think we will settle with him at the top of the order and I think Hughes and Simmons could be a pretty powerful combination at the top."
The Strikers will pay tribute to Hughes at the opening BBL game on 18 December at Adelaide Oval.
He was the most determined little bloke I’ve met. He had a heart of gold but was a no-fuss straight shooter.
