The Adelaide Strikers have moved into second place on the BBL|02 ladder after completing a convincing 51 run win over the Sydney Thunder at ANZ Stadium in Sydney tonight.
A dominant bowling performance from the Strikers’ fast bowlers restricted the Thunder to 126, speedsters Shaun Tait (3/22) and Kane Richardson (3/9) doing the bulk of the damage with three wickets each.
The Thunder batters struggled to get going as the Strikers’ brilliant bowling caused the home team to lose wickets at regular intervals.
Tait removed the Thunders’ opening batters with ease, bringing Chris Gayle to the crease.
The highly anticipated duel between Kieron Pollard and Gayle was squashed when Pollard had Gayle caught by Botha, scoring just 8 runs from 19 balls.
Cameron Boyce (2/24) combined with Johan Botha to remove the Thunders’ middle order.
A 51 run partnership between Ryan Carters (24) and Scott Coyte (33) took the Thunder’s tally past 100.
Richardson (3/8) was brought back into the attack, taking two wickets in an over to all but end the Thunder’s innings.
Sent in to bat, the Strikers posted 177 from their 20 overs after Michael Klinger (60) and Tim Ludeman (46) built the perfect platform, putting on 81 for the first wicket.
After a slow start the Strikers hit their strides, Nathan Reardon belting five sixes in three overs on his way to an impressive man of the match 42 from 20 balls.
