Shooting Star McGrath

15 March 2017

Adelaide Strikers and Breezair SA Scorpions all-rounder Tahlia McGrath has been selected as part of the 13-player Commonwealth Bank Shooting Stars squad that will tour Sri Lanka from 27 March to 11 April.

Made up of Australia’s best emerging players aged 21 and under (with the exception of Tasmania's Georgia Redmayne), the side will be coached by former Australian fast-bowler and Women’s Youth Coach Cathryn Fitzpatrick, with Victoria and Melbourne Stars’ Coach David Hemp acting as Assistant Coach.

McGrath, 21, was included in the Shooting Stars squad in 2016 and has since had a breakout year in cricket.

Her successful Women’s National Cricket League campaign with 226 runs at an average of 36.83 and taking 10 wickets was the precursor for her selection into the Governor General’s XI in November.

The GG XI took on South Africa in a 50-over match at Coffs Harbour, where McGrath posted the second highest score with the bat (30) and took two crucial scalps.

Later that month, McGrath made her ODI debut with the Southern Stars and was then soon back in the Strikers blue for WBBL|02.

McGrath finished the tournament as the Strikers’ second-highest wicket taker with nine at 16.66, while also compiling 131 runs at an average of 16.37.

The Shooting Stars squad will assemble at the Bupa National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Brisbane on Sunday 26 March before flying to Colombo where they will play three One-Day fixtures and three Twenty20s against Sri Lanka.
