It’s been a big week – and a big month – for the Adelaide Strikers, and for us, it all comes down to tonight’s game against the Perch Scorchers.

In a nutshell, we need to win to make sure get into the finals of this year’s KFC T20 Big Bash League. We don’t want to leave anything to chance – so we’ll be pushing hard to take the points and make sure we claim a final four spot. There’s no denying that we have made it hard for ourselves this tournament. We are sitting 4 wins, 3 losses, when we really should be much better placed than that. Two losses in a row didn’t help, but sometimes in T20, that can happen. The way we bounced back last Saturday proves we are a good unit. We wanted to make a big stand, not just for us as a team, but for our fans back at home.

It was a great win in Hobart on Saturday, when we smashed the Hurricanes by 38 runs. It was really good to see that every part of our game plan – batting, bowling and fielding – came together; and from a player’s perspective, it’s a real buzz to be part of a team that nails all the basics. It shows us all that the hard work is worth it, and that our coaching staff know their stuff.

I’m pretty sure the match is going to be known for a long time for “that catch”…. Richo’s blinder in the outfield was one that has had plenty of airplay over the past few days. It was a real body blow for the Hurricanes – Travis Birt is a dangerous player, so for Cam Boyce to get him, Ponting and Paine in his spell of four overs was a total game changer for us.

Personally, I’m really enjoying this season, but I’m sure that the lads and I won’t be happy if it ends for us tonight. We have great support at Adelaide Oval with our sea of blue, and we want to put on a real show for our fans. I love running onto our home ground and seeing everyone decked out in their Striker blue – it gives us a massive buzz, so the players do really appreciate it, that’s for sure.

We might have lost Polly for this match, but we will have Nathan Lyon back from Australian duties – Nathan loves bowling at Adelaide Oval, so he’ll be totally pumped to get back to his home town and spin us to win.
