The Adelaide Strikers have today completed their first training as a team prior to kicking off their 2012-13 KFC T20 Big Bash League campaign in Perth against the Scorchers on Sunday.
Following yesterday’s trial games, the players gathered at Park 25 and were put through their paces in preparation for the challenges posed by the T20 format.
Strikers’ captain John Botha, returning for his second season as a Striker, said he was looking forward to combining coach Darren Berry’s ‘spin to win’ philosophy with the raw pace of Shaun Tait.
“If we have to go on history, spinners have definitely done a really good job in T20 cricket,” said Botha.
“I think there is definitely room for quicks, with the new ball you still want to take wickets.
“Taity is excellent at the death as well, so there’s definitely room for all sorts.”
The squad faced a number of match-simulated scenarios, focusing predominantly on skill execution and adjusting to the fast-paced format.
The Strikers continue their preparation for game one tomorrow at St Peters College, before flying to Perth on Friday.
